In addition to sculpture, Barbedienne, the leading 19th-century Parisian bronze foundry, produced clocks, lamps, and other functional pieces where the highest-quality bronze work was required. This clock is a gorgeous expression of Barbedienne's genius at producing the most exquisite decorative art. As is evident in the pictures, the bronze is substantial and exquisitely detailed (note the oak garlands with acorns). The mechanism functions flawlessly and retains its original key and pendulum. France, circa 1880. H: 14"/36cm.
